About.

Short-beaked echidna

Since our beginnings in 2012, Fauna Resources has grown into one of Australia’s trusted names in fauna management.

From our beginnings in Queensland’s Coal Seam Gas industry to our ongoing work across diverse landscapes, Fauna Resources has stayed true to one mission: safeguarding wildlife while supporting industry with safe, compliant, and ethical solutions. We put passionate people into purposeful roles, each bringing dedication, expertise, and professionalism to every project.

Specialising in fauna management for large-scale infrastructure, resources, and construction projects, we combine scientific knowledge with practical, on-the-ground solutions to ensure environmental responsibility and project success go hand in hand.

Sustainability through a low-emission fleet solution.

We recognise that protecting wildlife goes hand-in-hand with caring for the broader environment. To reduce our footprint, we’ve added hybrid EV site vehicles to our fleet, supporting our teams in the field while aligning with our commitment to sustainability.

These low-emission utes reflect the same values of care and responsibility that guide our fauna management, marking another step toward a cleaner, greener future.

Richie Gilbert
Managing Director

Richie is the co-founder and a managing director of Fauna Resources and a highly experienced and zealous wildlife professional with a truly unique knowledge of reptiles and snakes.

Richie is deeply passionate about Australian wildlife and the natural environment. For him, conservation is more than work – it is at the very heart of who he is. Whether rescuing animals, educating communities, or supporting sustainable development, Richie is committed to protecting what makes Australia unique: its remarkable native fauna and wild places.

Captivated by reptiles from a young age, Richie turned that fascination into a profession, when in 2002 when he became a fully licensed snake catcher. A decade later, he founded the wildly successful Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, which went on to become one of Australia’s most trusted and recognisable animal management services. Through media outreach and social platforms, Richie educated millions and safely relocated tens of thousands of snakes from homes and businesses – all while maintaining a 100% safety record. More than merely a business, it became a bridge between people and wildlife.

As his career progressed, Richie expanded into fauna management and specialist wildlife consulting, contributing to a wide range of environmental and development projects across Queensland. Most recently, he joined forces with fellow wildlife expert and conservationist Vaughan King to establish Fauna Resources.

Beyond his professional work, Richie is also a talented wildlife photographer, contributing to such publications as The Reptiles and Amphibians of Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea. He is a nature explorer, and a people-focused leader who values integrity and loyalty in everything he does.

Vaughan King
Managing Director

Vaughan is a managing director and co-founder of Fauna Resources, and comes from a long history of fauna management and wildlife expertise. Growing up in Western Australia, wildlife and the natural world was always his passion, having the immense opportunity to work at multiple wildlife parks at an early age, before making the move east to Australia Zoo straight out of high school.

After learning from some of the very best wildlife professionals Australia has to offer, in 2012, Vaughan decided to take a leap of faith and founded Epicentre Environmental – an award-winning fauna management company which would later form the backbone of the Fauna Resources we know today. From conducting monitoring of fragile Koala populations in south east Queensland, camera trapping feral species in the temperate rainforests of Victoria, to leading Black cockatoo survey teams in the Jarrah forests of Western Australia, Vaughan has been fortunate enough to do it all.

Over the last decade, Vaughan has been a highly sought after wildlife consultant, having been engaged as a contributing cinematographer and wildlife consultant to documentary channels such as Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and CBC Canada. He is still an avid wildlife photographer, with a special interest in macro photography of frogs and a myriad of other wildlife species.

It is this deep-seated passion for wildlife, and relentless pursuit of professionalism that makes Vaughan an incredible asset to any project facilitated by Fauna Resources.

Today, together with Richie, Vaughan continues to lead Fauna Resources into its next chapter, ensuring industry-leading fauna management practices are delivered on projects across Australia.
